چکیده
Modulating the boundary layer velocity profile is a very promising strategy for achieving transition delay and reducing friction of plate. By perturbing flow with counter-rotating vortices that undergo transient, non-modal growth, streamwise-aligned streaks are formed inside layer, which have been proved (theoretical experimentally) to be robust structures. In this paper, we employ efficient numerical methods perform parametric stability investigation three-dimensional incompressible flat-plate finite-amplitude streaks. For purpose, Boundary Region Equations (BREs) applied solve nonlinear downstream evolution finite amplitude Regarding analysis, linear plane-marching Parabolized Stability (PSEs) concept constitutes best candidate task. Therefore, thorough study presented, analyzing instability characteristics respect critical conditions modified zero-pressure-gradient by means linearly optimal suboptimal disturbances or The parameter space extended from low- high- streaks, accurately documenting low-amplitude threshold streak shear bypass transition, drastically displaces front upstream.

Transition in incompressible boundary layers with two-dimensional excrescences
An experimental investigation of the transition process in boundary layers subjected to forwardor aft-facing two-dimensional step excrescences is described. The objective of the work was to characterize the variation of transition Reynolds numbers with measurable roughness and boundary layer parameters, with the specific goal of specifying new tolerance criteria for laminar flow airfoils, along...
متن کاملSimulating Viscous Incompressible Fluids with Embedded Boundary Finite Difference Methods
The behaviour of liquids and gases ranks among the most familiar and yet complex physical phenomena commonly encountered in daily life. To create a seamless approximation of the real world, it is clear that we must be able to accurately simulate fluids. However, a crucial element of what makes fluid behaviour so complex and compelling is its interactions with its surroundings. To simulate the m...
متن کاملHelical modes in boundary layer transition
Observations are presented to show that in an adverse pressure gradient boundary layer, beneath free-stream turbulence, the interaction between Klebanoff streaks and naturally arising instability waves leads to helical disturbances which break down to form turbulent spots. This occurs under low to moderate levels, 1%–2%, of free-stream turbulence. At high levels of free-stream turbulence, conve...
متن کاملDelaying transition in rotating boundary-layer flows
We investigate both the type I and II modes of stationary instability within the boundarylayer flow over a rotating disk. Extending the work of previous studies we find that the flow can be stabilised via the introduction of shear-thinning non-Newtonian fluids. Laminar-flow profiles are determined from a generalised von Kármán similarity solution. An asymptotic study is presented in the limit o...
متن کاملAmplitude Modulation of Pressure in Turbulent Boundary Layer
The interaction between large and small scale motions from the point of pressure fluctuation is studied. Using the small pressure probe, both the static pressure and wall pressure fluctuations were measured inside the zeropressure gradient boundary layer at relatively high Reynolds numbers. How the large scales in outside affect the small scales near wall is analyzed by means of statistical met...
